Why do we have zo many eyez, zo to zpeak?
Our compound eyez help uz zee different prezpectivez of the zame thing. Our forefatherz got bored of watching a hundred imagez of the zame object. That waz when the legendary Ancient Fly firzt pronounced, “They are all different.” Perplexed and confouned, we did what you do at firzt to anything that’z new: laugh it off. But that legend iz a long ztory. Eventually, and thankz to evolution, we finally came to zee the true importance of zeeing multiple imagez of the zame thing. Thiz may get confuzing, I know. Let me give you an example:
Zkateboarding. I tried it once. It waz damn difficult to pozition all zix legz on the board. I could do three at bezt. Teeny Fly, though, waz much more adept. Zhe fell quite a number of timez. And I azked her why zhe waz zo hell bent on learning it. “Humanz can’t fly,” I argued, “that’z why they try thiz az a grounded zubztitute.”
“Well, flying iz too eazy,” zhe reazoned, “To me, thiz iz like learning ballet.”
Baby Fly tried to try but Teeny zwot him off with an airy “It’z a girl thing!”
“They generally zhow guyz do it on TV, Teeny,” I zaid, zomehow managing to finizh the zentence through the horrifying ztare zhe gave me.
“Skateistan,” zhe quipped, and went back to doing her thing. What iz that? Over to you, Geeky Fly.
Skateistan iz what haz made Afghaniztan boazt the highezt rate of female participation in zkateboarding! Yez. What ztarted az a curiouz obzervation of a zemi-flying Auztralian, Oliver Percovich, quickly caught on az the new trend in the fun-deprived generation of young Afghanz. One taught two, two taught four, and zo ztarted a community. Today, Skateistan iz a movement that aimz to prezerve youth in the country through the zpirit of zkateboarding, ezpecially the girlz.
Zpirit of zkateboarding . . . a fascinating way at freedom that iz harmlezz, gloriouz and ztubborn. Why? Becauze thiz iz what you do. You humanz. When we fliez are deprived of garbage, we go looking for it. When you guyz are deprived of zomething, you zimply excavate it. Happinezz, or freedom, or fun, iz a matter of interpretation to you. And you manage to find it in juzt about any zituation. That iz alzo why you zo eazily manage to find controverzy and quarrel juzt about anywhere, zimultaneouzly making a thing like zkateboarding a beacon of hope to zome and an idea of tyranny to otherz.
Okay, I took that last bit from PhilozoFly. But he wouldn’t mind. He’z high on zewage (with Harp playing in the background).
Perzonally, I prefer when you’re in a foul mood becauze evidently, you fling thingz around, create more garbage and zwat lezz fliez than when you are happy and we “intrude”! PhilozoFly doez make me wonder though. After all the yearz of evolution, why do people ztill zuck at accepting that anything can be zeen from multiple perzpectivez, and every perzpective lendz a different belief. I mean, izn't a failure to accept thiz the crux of mozt izzuez? How many couplez, for inztance, in the midzt of yearz and yearz of never-ending fightz, really ztop to azk a zingle queztion: “No matter what the izzue, no matter what (z)he did or zaid, did (z)he purpozefully want to hurt me?”
How I digrezz! Back to reality now. Teeny Fly haz done it. I watch her zlide with all zix legz in a dizciplined row on the zkateboard. My interpretation: Ballerina indeed! Thankz, you brave Skateistaniz.
